As
I entered the kitchen, I saw a pizza-encrusted
plate and a greasy glass on the same countertop I had just finished
cleaning fifteen minutes earlier. Exasperation seethed through my veins
as I realized that my stepson once again had totally disregarded the
request I made the day before to put his dirty dishes in the
dishwasher, not on the counter. Looking back, I realize that the dirty
plate in itself was no big deal. What was disturbing was his
