Stepfathers' Anonymous Playbook Print E-mail

This was sent to me by Joe Pritchard to review. When I first picked up the book, I thought, looks like a diary. But when I started to read the book I really enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it to all Stepfathers.

In his preface he writes, In the past four years I have experienced the joys and the sorrows of stepparenting/ This books is about those experiences. The anecdotes involving my family are based on truth. My two teenage stepdaughters and my wife provided the material. I simply added the humor...humor that was not necessarily present at the time of the actual events. It's much easier looking back and laughing at ourselves.

The book begins with: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth... and man and woman. His initial plans did not call for divorce and suffering. However, Eve proved early in the game that men were gullible and easy marks with huge egos. Thus, with the inevitable decline and fall of the nuclear family, God decided to make the best of a rather sad situation by allowing a new breed of men to emerge from the ruins Stepfathers... if at first you don't succeed, you give it another shot. In some cases two shots may not be enough.

This new breed would be men of vision, unafraid of their predecessors and years of failure. They would band together in large packs throughout the universe.., real men eating quiche and working out with Jane Fonda as they cited the Stepfathers' Anonymous Creed: I am a stepfather. I was born to be a father. Regardless of my past path I can be a positive role model for my children. I do possess the inner strength and Godgiven capabilities to lead my children down the path of righteousness, world without end, and it may take till the end. I also am a man, descendant of the first great failure, Adam. However, I was re-created by God in His own image and do possess the God-given capabilities to serve my wife faithfully and humbly. I can faithfully serve my new family with dignity and honor without the assistance of illicit substances or any illicit behavior, including that horrible creature known as TVbutt.

I will find alternative uses for my button pushing hand. I also fully accept the responsibility of knowing that I may not be able to handle social button pushing. I would benefit from abstinence of all vices, given that my biological makeup is geared to the old man's ways of failure and neglect of family duty. I am committed to the above mentioned values and prepared to take this message to the ends of the earth, not to mention my willing ness to contact my brothers if I feel myself succumbing to my biological desires to eat, drink, and do nothing for nobody. I am one of the new breed. I am a member of Stepfather' Anonymous. Amen. Throughout the book there are Christian reference and his prayers. But, the book is just not aimed at Christians but all Stepfathers, WORTH READING.
