Source: Waring Redpath & Associates 10 August, 1999 We have probably all seen the divorce statistics that show that 40% of Australian marriages will end in divorce. The statistics for second marriages are even higher and these figures don't really reflect the defacto relationships that also end. It is a fact that many children are growing up in step family situations and are having contact with their other parent on weekends and school holidays. If we accept that at times parenting can be very difficult then step parenting often poses enormous challenges. Step families can work and can be very happy.
