Pathways Foundation - Pathways to Manhood is creating a positive future for boys Print E-mail

Pathways to Manhood is creating a positive future for boys and families.

The key outcomes of Pathways are:

    * Strong long term relationships between father and son
    * Respectful relationships with mothers
    * Increase in boys self esteem
    * Boys taking greater responsibility for their own behaviour
    * Improved communication and conflict resolution skills
    * Ongoing support for boys to keep their lives 'on track'

Our aim is to provide every Australian teenage boy with a fun, adventurous Rite of Passage transition process and ceremony to young manhood. Pathways happens in the bush, in a safe, strong, healthy and professional environment.

Many negative consequences emerge when boys are not given a caring and meaningful transition into adulthood.

All boys need what Pathways provides. With some this may be highly evident, they may be lacking in motivation, dropping out of school, undertaking high risk behaviours and turning to violence, feeling angry, confused or lost, many have no one to turn to for friendship or guidance. All boys benefit from pathways, even when their need is not so evident.

Many teens now create their own passages in gangs, alcohol and fast cars, all primarily without the guidance of fathers and elders.

One result is a dramatic increase in male suicide.

Camps are aimed at young males (approx 12-15) together with their fathers, step fathers, uncles, grandfathers or mentors. It is possible for young men to come unaccompanied (we will try to provide a mentor) and there is no necessity for blood relation between "father" and son.

Pathways key values are respect, responsibility and awareness. Each camp lives these values in everything we do. Boys are honoured and welcomed into the masculine journey, into a community of men. We explore what it is to be a man and help each young man seek his individuality, purpose, and value.

Pathways partners with boys, parents, schools, communities, interested professionals, future facilitators, philanthropists and government to make Pathways available wherever it is needed. We especially invite contact from schools, local communities, individuals, men interested in training to facilitate ... all who want to get Pathways happening for the boys in their community. Pathways Foundation is a not-for-profit charity with Federal Government Gift Deductible Recipient status, donations are tax deductible.
