DOCS and police have the power to remove children from their home or charge parents with neglect if it is believed children are left in a dangerous situation. But if single parents are being forced to fulfill work test requirements in order to be paid income support, the question is whether the government must meet a duty of care to the parents’ children. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I thought the key words here are left in a dangerous situation. I am sure single parents will ensure that their children are not left in such situation and ample provision would be given to ensure the children are safe. My understanding is the single mothers are only expected to work 15 hours per week, which, if children are left home alone, it would only be for a short time. Lots of parents are faced with this situation on a day to day basis.
