Product Description In Stepmothers and Stepdaughters, Karen Annarino explores the increasingly common yet rarely examined connections between stepmothers and stepdaughters. This book's powerful and inspiring real-life stories offer a candid look at relationships that can be as pleasurable and painful as their biology-based counterparts. They also honor the remarkable women who have worked to overcome negative stereotypes and create balanced, loving relationships based on mutual respect, love, and self-awareness. Exploring the role of these relationships in today's increasingly complex family structures, the stories and commentary here present them as strong, loving, lifelong unions. The book offers a positive outlook for every woman who dares to look beyond the societal labels and to honor a relationship that brings its own special rewards.

Excellent stories of triumph in very difficult roles! December 17, 2001 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book was excellent. I have been a custodial stepmother for 13 years and have read a LOT of books about stepfamilies. This is the first one to shine a positive light on steps. Usually books about stepfamilies are designed to overcome the horrors of it all. This book reflected upon the wonderful experiences of stepmothers and stepdaughters. The ups and downs, and the wonderful relationships that develop. I first read it, gave one to MY stepdaughter and also one to my stepmother! I am both a stepmother and stepdaughter and found this book to be an awesome read!
just what i needed! there is HOPE! February 3, 2009 Andrea Sartorius (Virginia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
this book is excellent. i am a wife of a widower and i have 2 step-daughters who are teenagers. it can be quite a challenge. this book is the only one i've found about dealing with a relationship with step-daughters specifically. i love it. it encourages me when i get discouraged and caught up in the daily grind and stresses of it all. sometimes i wonder what i've gotten myself into....and this book reminds me there is HOPE!! it will for you, too!!
Delightful! March 9, 2010 Wendy L. Deppe (Coppell, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a delightful little book! I am stepmom to a 6 year old girl, whom I adore. She and I are very close, and although things aren't perfect we have a very strong relationship. I hope that will always be the case.
There are many things that can go wrong in stepfamilies, but this book is a lovely little reminder of how right things can sometimes go too. It is an affirmation that though we may experience hurt and challenges, it is possible to overcome and produce positive relationships.
The book is broken into the following sections:
Discover--Learning as We Go
Deepening--Facing the Challenges of Life Together
Daring--Creating New Ways of Being Family
Delight--Gathering the Gifts of Life Together
Sharing our Own Wisdom--Advice to Steps and Soon-to-Be Steps
I enjoyed reading the stories of other stepmoms and stepdaughters scattered throughout, and I thought each chapter had some very useful "nuggets". I definitely recommend this book!
